City of Wodonga

Prevention of Violence Against Women Grants Program

Following the White Ribbon Ball in November last year where $25,000 was raised, Wodonga Council and AlburyCity and local police have launched the Prevention of Violence against Women grants program.

The cities have seen significant increases in family violence in recent years with 91 per cent of victims female. This has prompted concerted cross-border action to tackle the issue.

The funding is available through two categories centred around prevention and assistance.

The first category will be available to the community as support for events, initiatives and programs which prevent and raise awareness of family violence.

The second will be used to help support agencies which specialise in helping women and children experiencing violence in Albury-Wodonga.

The grants are being administered by a cross-border committee made up of AlburyCity, Wodonga Council, Albury and Wodonga police and the NSW Department of Family and Community Services.

Applicants in both categories can apply for a grant from $500 up to $5000 once a year.
