Pizza oven to open in Wodonga
An outdoor, communal pizza oven will be officially opened at 5pm today in Wodonga’s Belvoir Park, coinciding with an Aboriginal family day hosted by the Wodonga Aboriginal Network.
Wodonga Mayor Cr Anna Speedie thanked Member for Indi Ms Cathy McGowan for the funding from the Stronger Communities Programme, and the Wodonga Apex Club for initiating the project.
“This pizza oven has been a joint effort between the Australian Government, Victorian Government, Wodonga Apex Club and Wodonga Council,” Cr Speedie said.
“It is when we combine funding, expertise, community ownership and commitment that we can deliver facilities that benefit the whole community.”
“The Wodonga Aboriginal Network will be the first group to use the pizza oven, and it’s great to see families using the community facilities today.
“This is a fabulous community resource that will be used and enjoyed by many in the community for years to come.”
Member for Indi Cathy McGowan also congratulated the people of Wodonga for a terrific effort in establishing the pizza oven.
“This was an effective partnership that showed how the community can work with all levels of government for a great result,” Ms McGowan said.
The pizza oven will be open on dates to be advertised throughout 2017 starting from late March for the community to bring their own ingredients, with pizzas to be cooked by Wodonga Apex Club.
