Planning for the Wodonga Hills

Wodonga has incredible hills.

Six hills form a ring around our city – on our west we have the Hunchback Hill Complex including Klings Hill, to the south is Federation Hill, Bears Hill and the Baranduda Range, and on the east is Huon Hill. Further out to the east is Mahers Hill, on the banks of Lake Hume.

We want to continue to protect Wodonga’s hills from encroaching development, and maintain their enormous value as a green and restful amphitheatre for those who live here and those who visit. Feedback will inform the draft Planning for the Wodonga Hills Strategy which identifies ways to open up the hills so our growing population – including many young families – can reap the many benefits of increased recreation, leisure and conservation, right on our back doorstep and aims to provide the access and infrastructure for people to get out and enjoy our hills.

It will map the legacy of the hills and the enormous potential they contain.

Accompanying the strategy are individual master plans.

Whether you use them to walk your dog, stroll or train, as a member of a keen sporting or hobby group, or you simply live alongside the hills, have your say on the future of our hills.

October 17, 2017

The council adopted the Planning for the Wodonga Hills Strategy and masterplans at it's October meeting.

The final motion was to adopt the strategy and master plans, establish an advisory group, formalise agreements with user group and review the strategy in three years.

August 21, 2017

At the August council meeting, the council passed a motion that the suite of draft plans be placed on exhibition for four weeks, following which, submissions would be considered and a feedback report be presented to the council at its October meeting.

May 15, 2017

The council has held a series of workshops with interested participants focusing on each hill precinct as well as a community drop-in session where residents can find out more about the strategy and planning for the hills, consider the revised documents and offer further feedback.

A report on the themes, concerns and issues raised at the workshop is available in the document library and was distributed to participants.

This feedback and submissions received will inform and be considered in the revisions of the draft strategy.

The original timeline proposed to bring the revised draft strategy back to the May council meeting has been deferred as the result of the extended feedback period.

When this has been done by the council, the community will have another opportunity to have their say during a 28-day exhibition period before they are adopted by the council.

June, 27, 2017

At the June council meeting, the council received an update on the progres of the Planning for the Wodonga Hills project. The information report set out a timeline in which the revised documents would be scheduled to be presented to the August council meeting with a recommendation for the drafts to be put out for an exhibition period.

Following the exhibition period, and finalisation of the Planning for the Wodonga Hills documents, it is proposed that the strategy be presented to the council for consideration and adoption.

Submissions can be made online (using the online form below), by e-mail or phone.
