Kosovar Park playground design

In August this year we asked local residents their thoughts on what they wanted to see in planned upgrades for Kosovar Park Playground.

More swings, climbing, making things more suitable for older children and retaining the grassed area were common themes from both children, their parents and carers.

The proposed design increases the amount of equipment and play areas in the park without removing the open space and includes:

  • Replacement multiplay unit with larger slide and toddler slide;
  • Rope web;
  • Climbing and fitness frame;
  • Arched monkey bars;
  • 360 degree basket swing; and,
  • Twister, hopscotch and handball markings.

The existing spinner, rocker and swings will be retained.

Other planned works at the site are an additional table and chairs, removal of the enclosed playground fencing and nature play.

Thursday, March 2, 2023

Work is scheduled to begin Monday, March 6.

The playground will be closed until Friday, March 24.

The nearest playgrounds are Ernie May Park, Bradbury Park and Henrika Kuljurgies Reserve.

Thank you to everyone who gave feedback.

Some of the items raised over the design were the removal of fencing, shade, seating.

In response, the council has included the following elements in the renewal.

  • Fencing will remain along Thornbill Terrace as a barrier to road access directly from the playground;
  • An additional table and chairs will be added near the playground;
  • Shade over the playground will be considered in future budgets

Further to this, in both the initial consultation and design feedback, a basketball court was raised. It was investigated but unfortunately not possible within the limitations of the site given the space required, the proximity to residences and noise was also a concern.

The equipment has been ordered and works to upgrade the playground are due to start in March 2023.
