Happy International Dog Day

26 Aug, 2021

August 26 is officially International Dog Day, a designated time to celebrate our four-legged friends.

Dogs are some of the most popular pets in Wodonga with more than 7000 residing in the city.

Our records show that Bella is the top dog’s name in our city with 139 pet owners choosing this name.

Coming in second place is Charlie (96), followed by Molly (90), Zoe (39), and Archie (37).

The most popular dog breed in Wodonga is a Jack Russell (751), followed by Labrador (560), and Border Collie (554), while some of the other breeds include Kelpie (431), Blue Heeler (141), Golden Retriever (133), Labradoodle (63), Weimaraner (17) and two Chow Chows.

There are many ways humans show their fur babies affection – walks, cuddles on the couch, a belly rub, and yummy treats.

Have you ever thought about the ways our four-legged friends return that affection?

Kissing is a universal sign of affection, even among dogs and when they lick you, they are showing you how much they care.

They may also rub their tail up against your body or jump on your lap while you are sitting on the couch, these are all ways they communicate their affection.
