Enjoy a day immersed in post-war migrant history and experience the ways in which migrants shaped modern Australia on this historic bus tour of significant sites across Albury Wodonga.
Stop 1. Latchford Barracks
Witness the size and scale of the original migrant camp at Bonegilla when it opened in 1947. You’ll have the opportunity to spend time at Latchford Barracks to view the last remaining building and footings as well as past block locations that aren’t accessible to the general public.
Stop 2. Bonegilla Migrant Experience
During a special guided tour at Bonegilla Migrant Experience, you’ll hear shared stories and truly walk in the shoes of the 320,000 migrants who made this their first Australian home.
Stop 3. Albury LibraryMuseum
Afterwards, wander through Albury LibraryMuseum’s collection to get a deeper understanding of Bonegilla’s past.
Morning tea and lunch will be provided. Please advise of any dietary requirements for morning tea and lunch upon booking.
Bus pick up locations
The tour includes bus transport between tour sites. Guests can choose to begin their tour from either of our bus pick up locations:
- 9.45am l Wodonga Senior Citizens Centre car park, 15 Havelock Street, Wodonga
- 10.05am l Albury Train Station, Smollet Street, Albury
Optional drop off at both locations between 4pm and 4.30pm.
Accessibility and environmental considerations
Kindly note that the bus is not equipped to accommodate wheelchairs. Please consider individual requirements upon booking.
The day will include a relative amount of walking, please ensure that you wear comfortable and enclosed shoes (if possible) as there are several unsealed paths.
If the weather is hot, please bring protective clothing such as hats and sunscreen. Likewise if it is cooler or wet weather, please consider a raincoat, umbrella.
