Wodonga Council extends thanks to its volunteers

5 Dec, 2019

Wodonga has more than 8000 volunteers who each year give countless hours to a variety of organisations and causes.

Wodonga Council has more than 340 registered volunteers who today, on International Volunteers Day, were invited to the launch of the city's new Volunteer Handbook.

Council cheif executive officer Mark Dixon thanked all the volunteers for their contributions.

"Volunteers contribute an invaluable amount of time and energy to a wide range of services, events and committes that without their generosity, would simply cease to exist," he said.

"Our volunteers welcome visitors to the Bonegilla Migrant Experience and to our events and festivals," he said.

"Young volunteers help organise and run music events and other youth events including the Red Carpet Youth Awards and Street Jam.

"Volunteers at the Felltimber Community Centre and Baranduda Community Centre assist on a range of projects and committees while our library and our waste transfer station are also run with the help of volunteers.

"These volunteers provide essential skills and services."

The Volunteer Handbook will detail the roles and responsibilities of council volunteers.

Information about volunteering, the volunteer handbook and volunteer opportunities are available on Wodonga Council's website.
