Wodonga Little Athletics bounces back

2 Nov, 2020

Saturday 31st October saw our centre return to active competition after being rained out for the past 2 weeks.

Rain through the night subsided just in time to commence Round 1 of our wekkly competition and for some of our athletes this was the first community sport
they had been able to compete in since March.

Today we woke to the news that as of January 2021, members from across the region can continue to enjoy the many benefits of being involved with little athletics each week at Wodonga Little Athletics Centre (WLAC) by using an Active Kids Voucher.

This voucher has been available in multiple Australian states for at least two years and Victorian sporting bodies have lobbied the government to support the program due to its success in neighbouring states.

Community sport is something that our children are needing. It is important for not only their mental health but that of their parents.

We are excited that our athletes will be able to directly benefit from the announcement.

Lauren Strauss, President of WLAC stated "You could hear the elation to return to Little Athletics in the children's voices yesterday, they were so happy to return to a routine, to see their friends and to get out on the track again".

Vice-President Nathan Miller noted "This is an important announcement for Victorians but moreover, Border clubs who have witnessed members cross the Border for reduced registration fees. We are now moving back to a level playing field and looking at getting our athletes out of lockdown mode and back on the track".

Families new to the area or those with children who are looking to improve their fundamental movement skills of running, jumping and throwing, are still able to join in and become a part of the Wodonga Little Athletics family.

Athletics provides an inclusive sporting opportunity to everyone, regardless of their sporting ability or previous experience.

All registrations can be completed online at http://www.lavic.com.au/membership
