Wodonga Council has put a proposal to the community for a second dog park in the city located in West Wodonga and will be on site tomorrow, Saturday, February 6, to answer questions and provide more information.
Requests for a second park have been ongoing in the community and was highlighted in the recent Talking Cats and Dogs and Talking Dogs consultations held over the past 18 months.
Following this feedback, the rules around dogs in public areas changed and, apart from in designated off-leash areas, dogs must be on a lead when in public areas.
The off-leash area to the south of Willow Park and next to McFarland Rd has been assessed as being the most suitable for a gated dog park.
The proposed site is significantly larger than the gated dog park at Belvoir Park, is close to public amenities, and already has established car parking along McFarland Road. This location is supported by additional parking at Willow Park and is well connected to many of Wodonga shared path networks.
The dog park will include the following.
- Two separate dog access gates, one at either end of the park
- Water bubblers with dog bowls at each entry point
- Fully secure chain wire mesh fence around the perimeter
- A 10m buffer zone from surrounding houses, paths and sports fields.
- Seating throughout the site
- Dog agility and play equipment
- Dog waste disposal bags and bins
The community is now being asked for feedback on the proposal. Submissions can be made via the council’s consultation portal Make Wodonga Yours. There is also an interactive map on which to provide feedback and see an approximate layout of the park.
A drop-in session with key council staff will be held on-site on Saturday, February 6 between 9am and 10am for nearby residents and the community to come along, ask questions and find out more.
The project is being funded with an allocation from the present year’s budget.
The consultation closes on February 17, 2021.
