Henri’s is baked into Wodonga history, and lives on with new management

10 Jul, 2024

It’s been an institution in Wodonga for 50 years, and now Henri’s Bakery has new owners and new management.

But don’t worry, there’s no major menu changes planned anytime soon.

The business is now owned by Hafez Kanjou and is being managed by husband and wife duo Alex and Ayse Kanjo.

“Everything will remain as it has been, but we have introduced a few new items to our bain marie and different flavouring of pies,” Alex said.

“Nothing drastic will be changing, just a freshening up of the seating area in the near future.”

He was drawn to the business due to its unique claim to fame.

“The fact that Henri’s is known for the world's largest rolling pin and has been a piece of Wodonga history for over 50 years was interesting. The pies are also divine,” he said.

“The customers have been extremely welcoming and supportive since the first week we took over.

“We are grateful for every customer that enters Henri's and shows us some support and love having a chat with everyone that comes through.

“Wodonga has exceeded our expectations of a country town.

“Coming from a big city like Melbourne it has been a big change but we are enjoying every bit of the country life. This is our new home and it will be for some time.”

Henri’s Bakery is open at 57 Hovell St, Wodonga, from 6am to 4.30pm Monday through Friday and 7am to 2pm on weekends.
