Wodonga Sports and Leisure Centre changeroom redevelopment

The council, in conjunction with Aligned Leisure, is under taking work to upgrade the aquatic changing facilities at the Wodonga Sports and Leisure Centre (WSLC).

The proposed plan for the upgrades outlines several key improvements. These works are necessary as the existing primary change rooms at the WSLC are outdated and in need of renewal to meet the varying needs of the community.

Works will commence in February and the majority of the refurbishment works are expected to be complete by the end of April 2024. Associated works may continue ontsite until the end of June, with the new change rooms accessible during this period.

Temporary toilet and shower facilities will be available external to the centre, through the southern pool doors. Patrons will also be able to access toilets and change rooms located near the gym and stadium.

Wodonga Council is managing the project, with the construction tender awarded to Binding Building in December 2023. This project is being funded through the council’s building renewal budget.

The completion of these upgrades will improve the safety, wellbeing and user experience for all patrons.

Frequently asked questions

What works are taking place?

The council, in conjunction with Aligned Leisure, is under taking work to upgrade the changing facilities at the Wodonga Sports and Leisure Centre (WSLC).

The proposed plan for the upgrades outlines several key improvements, including:

  • A fully compliant changing places change room featuring a toilet, shower, hoist and an adult change table;
  • The conversion of a basic dry family room into a complete family change room equipped with a baby changing area, shower and toilet facilities;
  • A compliant Unisex Accessible Water Closet (UAWC) change room with a toilet and shower;
  • The replacement of the existing three bay 'open' shower in the male area with three additional shower cubicles to enhance privacy and comfort;
  • Elimination of the outdated large urinal and replacement with an additional toilet cubicle, along with the installation of individual urinals for both adults and children;
  • The introduction of two dry change cubicles in the male area and the renewal of the existing cubicles in the female area to accommodate individuals who prefer privacy while getting changed; and
  • The inclusion of an ambulant toilet in each change room to cater to those with mobility challenges.
Why are these upgrades necessary?

The existing primary change rooms at the WSLC are outdated and in need of renewal to meet the varying needs of the community the WSLC services. This includes the need to better cater to users with a disability, who have called for a changing places facility for several years.

The completion of these upgrades will improve the safety, wellbeing and user experience for all patrons.

When will these works happen and how long will they take?

Works will commence from Monday, January 15 and are expected to be complete by late-April. As further detail is confirmed, this web page will be updated.

What changing facilities will be available during the redevelopment?

Temporary toilet and shower facilities will be available external to the centre, through the southern pool doors. Patrons will also be able to access toilets and change rooms located near the gym and stadium.

It must be noted that the external facilities will be limited in capacity and it is encouraged that, where possible, users shower at home or consider making use of the pool and facilities at WAVES if possible. We understand this may inconvenience users and are doing everything possible to mitigate the impact on patrons during the period of works.

Will there still be accessible change room access?

Yes, there are ambulant toilets available on the ground floor in the entry foyer and one universal accessible toilet and change room on level 1, past the gymnasium.

Will these works impact parking at the centre?

No, parking to the front of the facility will be unaffected.

Can I go to a different centre while the works are being undertaken?

Yes – the unification of the Albury Wodonga Aquatic Facilities, a joint initiative of Wodonga Council and Albury City, has resulted in the first Cross Border Membership.

This membership includes access to the WSLC alongside:

  • Wodonga WAVES - Wodonga’s home for summer swimming for all ages with an outdoor splash park and hosts regular aquatic sports activities and events;
  • The Albury Swim Centre – Albury’s home for aquatics, comprising a range of outdoor pools and water slide right in the heart of Albury; and
  • The Lavington Swim Centre - North Albury’s home for aquatics, comprising a range of outdoor pools.

A map outlining these alternate facilities is available here on site or via the Aligned Leisure team.

How is this project being funded and who is managing the build?

Wodonga Council is managing the project, with the construction tender awarded to Binding Building in December 2023. This project is being funded through the council’s building renewal budget.
