New Aboriginal educational resources for preschools

21 Feb, 2019

Wodonga Council has launched some Aboriginal educational resources to be used in the council’s preschools.

The resources include a children’s picture book, Australian Animals, which is authored and illustrated by local Aboriginal artist Adrian Sullivan and his daughter Lexi.

There is also children’s picture cards and two memory card games depicting Australian animals, illustrated by local Aboriginal artist Carleigh Walsh.

These talented artists highlight the different styles of Aboriginal artists.

Wodonga Council developed these resources with funding from the Victorian Government’s Minister for Early Years Award for Wodonga Council’s community vision of ‘No One Left Behind’.

No One Left Behind helps ensure all local children – including the most vulnerable – are taking part in early childhood services like maternal and child health services and kindergarten.

Wodonga Council’s Early Years team is committed to improving the engagement and participation of Aboriginal families in the preschool services and programs.

The council’s Early Years team developed a plan to ensure families are welcomed through inclusive, responsive and respectful relationships, environments and programs.

The new resources will be used in the council's preschools and they are also available for sale direct from the artist.
