Work kicks off at Junction Place

11 Dec, 2019

Civil works have commenced on the residential townhouse component at Wodonga’s Junction Place, with developer Central Place appointing local contractor AP Delaney to undertake the works.

The townhouses represent the first stage of main construction works at Junction Place, which will commence once the civil works are completed, which is expected to be in April 2020.

Development Victoria’s Group Head, Precincts, Mr Geoff Ward said the start of civil works was an exciting milestone for the project.

“Junction Place is regional Australia’s largest urban renewal project and this residential development will deliver construction jobs, as well as offer a prestigious new address in the heart of Wodonga,” he said.

“We congratulate Central Place on kick-starting the townhouse development and look forward to seeing it come to life.”

The townhouse development will complement the already thriving food and beverage offerings at Junction Place. Central Place’s has also entered into a joint venture with United Cinemas, with construction of a

10-screen cinema and entertainment complex expected to start by early 2021, subject to finance approval.

“These are all really positive milestones for Junction Place and a show of confidence in what is already proving to be a game-changing project for Wodonga,” Mr Ward said.

Junction Place will inject around $250 million into the local economy, increase visitation to the region and create local construction jobs as well as ongoing jobs in the retail, accommodation and hospitality sectors.

Junction Place is being delivered by the Victorian Government through Development Victoria, in partnership with local developer Central Place and in collaboration with City of Wodonga. The project is bringing new life to the former historic railway station and rail yards in central Wodonga. When completed, the project will double the size of Wodonga’s central business district.

The first stage of the precinct revitalisation saw the delivery of public open spaces including the Promenade and Junction Square (and in more recent times Richardson Park and Sidings Park), as well as refurbishment of the heritage assets on site, which now feature award-winning restaurants and cafes, creating a vibrant food and beverage precinct in the heart of Wodonga.
